Wrestling is one of the biggest sports/entertainment spectacles in the world today, but very few of us think about what happens to these superstars when they hang up their boots.

The truth is that most of them go on to have severe health and drug problems, and this coupled with the trauma to their bodies and possible depression that many of them end up dying way too young. There are countless wrestlers that have shared this fate – Mr Perfect, Macho Man Randy Savage, Chyna, Ultimate Warrior, Bam Bam Bigelow and Big Bossman to name but a few – and it looks like another one is destined to be added to that list, as Big Van Vader just tweeted the following:
Told by 2.heart Drs at this time that my heart is wore out from footbal&wrestling I have 2 yrs to live , conjestive hesrt failure reality

Ouch. I suppose if there’s anything to be taken from this (there isn’t really) it’s that at least Vader has lived to the age of 61 and knows that he doesn’t have long to live, but that’s still got to be an absolutely awful thing to have to hear about. Let’s hope that he makes the next two years count, and the WWE finally does something to help all its retired wrestlers deal with how their bodies shut down and the depression and drug abuse that they may encounter.
Here’s a Vader highlight reel as a tribute to the big man. One more time – IT’S TIME, IT’S TIME, IT’S VADER TIME! Go get them slugger:
