The Cannes film festival has been back for the last few days after a couple of years off due to the pandemic and the surprise movie so far has been Woody Harrelson’s ‘Triangle Of Sadness’.

The film is a dark comedy written and directed by Ruben Ostlund, and received an eight minute standing ovation after its screening over the weekend – way more than any of the other movies that have been show at the festival at this point. The movie tells the story of two models and a cleaning lady who become stranded on an island with a bunch of billionaires after a superyacht crash.
There doesn’t seem to be an official trailer for the movie yet, but here are a couple of clips and the official plot synopsis below that:

Models Carl and Yaya are navigating the world of fashion while exploring the boundaries of their relationship. The couple are invited for a luxury cruise with a rogues’ gallery of super-rich passengers, a Russian oligarch, British arms dealers and an idiosyncratic, alcoholic, Marx-quoting captain.
At first, all appears Instagrammable. But a storm is brewing, and heavy seasickness hits the passengers during the seven-course captain’s dinner. The cruise ends catastrophically. Carl and Yaya find themselves marooned on a desert island with a group of billionaires and one of the ship’s cleaners. Hierarchy is suddenly flipped upside down, as the housekeeper is the the only one who knows how to fish.
OK so those clips don’t really make it look that good do they, but I suppose they’re all setting the scene before they end up on the island and things really go west. The movie sounds pretty good so I’ll probably check it out when it eventually comes out in six months of whatever. Hope I remember it.
