A woman in France has been scammed out of €830,000 after believing she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt, and sending him cash for his cancer treatment after being told ex-wife Angelina Jolie froze his bank accounts.
The 53-year-old victim, who gave her name as Anne, told French channel TF1 that it all began in September 2023 when she received an Instagram DM from Jane Etta Pitt, Brad Pitt’s mum – or so the scammer claimed.
The chat soon turned to Brad Pitt and how the actor’s mum thought the two would make a perfect match. Anne was told by the scammer: ‘It is a woman like you that my son needs.’
The next day, interior designer Anne was contacted by another account, which was of course ‘Brad Pitt’ himself.
Brad’s first message read: ‘Hello Anne, my mother told me a lot about you. I would like to know more.’
At first, Anne suspected it might be a scam (smart), but decided to give the scammer the benefit of the doubt.
Anne recalled being ‘flabbergasted’ that she was actually speaking with Brad Pitt, adding: ‘At first, I thought it was fake, but I could not understand what was happening to me. After that, we would contact each other every day and we became friends.’
If you’re wondering how someone who has €830,000 in the bank could be so naive; Anne had just divorced her millionaire entrepreneur husband, 19 years her senior, and was generally having a rough time in life. So I guess she was desperate enough to believe that Brad f***ing Pitt would be chatting her up over Instagram.
The scammer sent Anne poems and songs and absurd AI photos of Brad Pitt to keep the scam going. No video call though, which you’d probably think was a red flag.
‘He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well done,’ Anne said.
Brad Pitt started buying Anne luxury bags, but told her that she had to pay for customs. That’s how Anne lost her first €9,000 (£7,580).
Eventually, the scammer – still impersonating Brad Pitt – claimed that he had kidney cancer and needed money for treatment. Why couldn’t a multi-millionaire A-list actor pay for cancer treatment himself? Well, because Angelina Jolie had frozen his bank accounts and he had no access to his fortune, obviously.
Here are some of the photos Brad Pitt sent Anne from hospital. Utterly convincing, I’m sure you’ll agree:
My favourite has to be this one, though:
Anne eventually transferred 830,000 euros (£697,000) to help with Brad Pitt’s cancer treatment, and the scammer probably couldn’t believe their luck.
In the end, Anne saw pictures of Brad Pitt with his new girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, in the papers and began suspecting that maybe, just maybe, she was being scammed and was not speaking with the real Brad Pitt after all. She went to French police with her story, and sure enough, her worst nightmares were confirmed.
It’s actually a really sad and tragic story and Anne is currently hospitalised herself in a clinic suffering from severe depression. Can’t even imagine how daft she feels after being taken on such a ride with this fake Brad Pitt, and losing 830,000 euros in the process. It’s absolutely brutal.
Anyway, I’ve got to get back to my chat with Kanye West on Facebook. Thanks for reading.
