I know what you’re thinking – what kind of woman wants to spy on men using the toilet in Aldi? Well, meet Chleo Sunter, 37, formerly known as John Leslie Graham.
Sex offender Chleo was caught with 790 pictures and 15 videos of men inside toilet cubicles and standing at urinals in Aldi. Honestly, I wasn’t even aware Aldi had toilets, but Chloe certainly was, and apparently spent a lot of time in there.
Chleo admitted to two counts of voyeurism at Teesside Crown Court last week, having taken photos not just in the toilets at Aldi, but also the toilets at a shopping centre in Middlesbrough, and at Darlington Train Station.
Chleo also admitted six breaches of a sexual harm prevention order after she was found to be in possession of extreme pornographic images in 2014, back when she was a bloke named John Leslie Graham.
She was caught with the material when her sex offender manager turned up at her home in Thornaby to check she was complying with the court order. Spoiler = she was not.
Photos and videos of unsuspecting men using the toilets near Middlesbrough’s Captain Cook Square shopping centre, at a Middlesbrough Aldi; and at Darlington station, were stored on her phone.
Paul Newcombe, prosecuting, told the court:
‘Some of the males were stood at the urinals. Some were recorded under the cubicles.’
Police investigators later found Chleo had deleted 695 chats, 712 photos, and four videos from the gay dating app, Grindr. She also further breached the terms of the order by resetting her phone to factory settings.
Naturally, Chleo’s barrister played the mental health card in court, but Judge Geoffrey Marson was having none of it, stating that her mental health difficulties and ‘particular circumstances have little, or no affect on the offences’.
In the end, Chleo Sunter was jailed for 26 months. Unfortunately, there’s no definitive public information specifying whether she was sent to a women or men’s prison, but it would be interesting to know. Under current UK prison policy, transgender prisoners are allocated based on their legal gender. However, new rules implemented in 2023 state that transgender women with male genitalia or those convicted of violent or sexual offences are generally not housed in women’s prisons unless exceptional circumstances are approved by senior officials.
Given that Chleo Sunter was already a registered sex offender even before she filmed nearly 800 men using public toilets, it’s likely she was placed in a men’s prison, even though this doesn’t seem to be confirmed anywhere. Wonder if she’ll keep up her peeping tom activities on the inside?
