A woman who stabbed her sugar daddy to death after he ran out of money has been jailed for 25 years.

Lauren Harris, 29, and her friend David Webster murdered 65-year-old grandfather-of-nine Mark Wilcox despite the fact he had been supporting her financially and even allowed her to move into his basement last October.

A rare case of the mugshot being more flattering…

Lauren had invited her friends David Webster, 43, and Thomas Whiteley, 33, over for a night of ‘drinking and drug-taking’ at Mark’s home, but the evening ended with her and Webster attacking Mr Wilcox with a knife and a vodka bottle, after she had tried to use his card at an ATM and found no money available. The pair then stole his Volvo before crashing it and were arrested when Wilcox was found dead at home.

Mr Wilcox’s wife Marcia Wilcox lived upstairs in the main house so was aware that her ex-partner had moved his sugar baby in downstairs (the couple had been separated for about 10 years). She said a cycle of shouting and abuse began after Lauren moved in, prompting her to call police several times. After 4 months of Lauren moving in, Marcia moved out, and Mark Wilcox was dead 30 days later.

Marcia said:

‘I remained living there but it was awful to live there. It wasn’t a relationship, it was a coercive mess. You try living with that shouting and screaming.’

When asked about the relationship, Mr Wilcox would say he wanted to help or save Harris.

This appeared to involve lending her money and by the time of his death more than £12,000 had been withdrawn from his bank account over five months.

Mr Wilcox’s four sons knew their dad had got himself into a dodgy situation and had even started a WhatsApp group named ‘Dad Brigade’ to keep an eye on him.

Harris and Webster were both handed life sentences for the attack, while the third defendent Whitely was found not guilty.

Amazingly, Lauren Harris belted out Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman as she was brought into the dock before the jury returned with their verdict. Her co-defendant Webster said: ‘F***ing psychopathic bitch. I hope you f***ing burn in hell, Lauren’ as they were led away from the dock. Not much better yourself pal, to be fair.

Prosecutor Andrew Ford KC said Harris had previous convictions for assault including unlawful wounding in 2022 involving use of a knife against a partner.

Mr Ford said:

‘Mr Wilcox was a gregarious, generous man whose generosity spilled over with the people he met, including, sometimes, strangers.’

‘Harris took advantage of Mr Wilcox, and that, to her, he presented an opportunity from which she could benefit.’

Just a terrible story and a very sad ending for a man who by all accounts was a top bloke, but was doomed the moment he entered this arrangement with a vulnerable nutcase almost 30 years his junior. In the end he ran out of money and found himself surrounded by this nut job’s scumbag friends, and was murdered for what was left of his possessions. The man was thinking with his d1ck, plain and simple. Why else would a 65-year-old man invite a 29-year-old psychopath to move into the marital home while his wife lived upstairs, and give her £12,000 over the space of a few months?

RIP Mark Wilcox – hopefully his tale will help dissuade other lonely old men from making the same mistakes.
