The new names of London’s six Overground lines have been revealed, significantly changing the look of the famous tube map and seemingly annoying a lot of people in the process.

The services will soon be rebranded as the Lioness line, the Mildmay line, the Windrush line, the Weaver line, the Suffragette line and the Liberty line, and each comes with its own brand new colour too:

Have to admit, ‘Lioness Line’ just sounds awful and ‘Suffragette Line’ seems so forced. Unless by ‘Suffragette’ they mean we’ll all be suffering with the inevitable delays or suffocating from the fumes and BO of our fellow passengers?

The general reaction on social media has not been kind:

I’m sure the Overground can be a bit confusing for some people, so if renaming and colouring the lines makes things easier, then I’m all for it.

Still, political angles aside, they could have come up with some better names. All the other tube lines are pretty much based on location and where you’re headed (Northern Line, Piccadilly Line, etc), but these just sound so awkward and try-hard. I do think ‘Windrush Line’ is cool though, will give them that. Sounds like it will be fast AF! Although we all know it probably won’t be…
