Ever since that slap at the Oscars, Will Smith’s career hasn’t been the same. But not even he could have predicted how terrible the first-week sales for his comeback album ‘Based On A True Story’ have been, selling an embarrassingly low amount in the UK and failing to crack the Billboard 200 in the US.

The album sold just 268 physical copies in its first week in the UK and only 36 digital downloads. THIRTY-SIX digital downloads! How is that even possible in this day and age? I honestly reckon the Sick Chirpse team could make an album of fart sounds and get more downloads than that.

The 14-track album features collaborations with Big Sean, Jaden Smith and Teyana Taylor, and also features a song that addresses the infamous Oscars slap on Chris Rock, in case you were wondering.

In the US, the album didn’t even make it onto the Billboard 200, making it the first Will Smith album ever to miss the chart entirely.

You have to wonder what type of effect this will have on Will Smith given that he’s clearly a guy who cares a lot what people think about him. He’s honestly so lucky that the internet wasn’t around in the days of Fresh Prince or the days when Jada Pinkett Smith was shagging Tupac. Can you imagine all the trolls and hate comments if social media was around back then? There’s no way he would have been able to handle it.

In any case, Will Smith apparently has two more albums in the pipeline and is planning a European tour, which will probably be pretty awesome to be fair if he’s belting out all the classics. Hopefully more than 36 people turn up to that. Go get ’em, Will!
