I’m not sure why everyone seems to love stories about trophy hunters being murdered – I get that they’re assholes for killing animals just to add to their collections, but I don’t think they need to die because of that? – but they always seem to go down well and I’m sure this next one will be no exception.

55 year old Riann Naude was the owner of the Pro Hunt Africa company and was sadly found dead next to his car in Limpopo, South Africa recently. South African Police Service spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said the following about the incident:
The man was lying with his face up and there was blood on his head and face.
Police found two hunting rifles, ammunition, clothes, water, whiskey, and pyjamas in the deceased’s [truck]. It looks like he was on his way to go hunting.
The motive for the attack and the subsequent murder is unknown at this stage.

Although not in the official statement, it’s believed that a white truck stopped next to Naude’s car and he was then shot in the head execution style by men jumping out of it. Here’s what The Metro wrote about what a cattle farmer who allegedly witnessed the situation had to say about the incident:
According to eyewitnesses, a white bakkie [truck] stopped next to him and shot him in cold blood at a short distance, after which the two suspects got out and only stole his pistol.
They then jumped into the vehicle and raced in the direction of Marken.
Traces were trampled on the scene
All the personal belongings were still in the vehicle, weapons, ammunition, hunting equipment and clothes were left as is.
Sounds pretty messed up doesn’t it? Almost like it was pre planned or something, but I don’t think there’s any suggestion at this point that this happened because of Naude’s involvement in the hunting industry.
Nevertheless, people were seemingly pretty excited about his death as they flooded social media with comments like ‘the hunter has become the hunted’ and ‘karma is a bitch’:
Big game hunter. 🎯 He was the head of Pro Hunt Africa. It never occurred to him that his head might be on the chopping block. Things can turn on a dime in the wild. The hunter can quickly become the hunted. pic.twitter.com/agMo85IxBv

Wish #RiaanNaude got his head mounted to a wall where it belongs.
It’s a shame he was shot in the head. His death didn’t deserve to be quick.
I just hope he packed for the warmer weather. I’ve heard it’s hot in hell.#AnimalLovers #prohuntafrica

Geez that last one is a bit much isn’t it?
Again, I think trophy hunting is pretty awful and the people involved with it are absolutely vile, but I don’t think it’s that cool to celebrate their murders like this? Seems a bit much no? I get that the guy has regularly killed animals for fun, but I don’t think two wrongs make a right? Just seems malicious to be stoked about him getting his brains blown out?
Hopefully his killers are brought to justice soon and a way that doesn’t involve killing people can be employed to make trophy hunters see the error of their ways? Thoughts with Naude’s family too.
For more of the same, check out this story about a trophy hunter getting trampled to death by an elephant. That’a bit more karmic than this one.
