53-year-old Sam Russell has just launched a brand new website called WhitePeopleMeet.com, and as you might expect, people aren’t too thrilled about it.

Russel explains:

It’s about equal opportunity. The last thing in the world I am is racist. I dated a black woman once. I helped raise a young black man … I just believe it’s hypocrisy to say ‘one group can do this, but another can’t.

Solid logic there. Not.

Anyway, WhitePeopleMeet officially launched last weekend and Sam even got this massive billboard up in Salt Lake City over in the States:

Despite appearances, Sam says anyone over 18 can join, regardless of race or ethnicity:

If you’re a black man who prefers to date white women, this might be a good option.

Which is a pretty stupid thing to say, because surely all the white women on there are signed up because they’re looking for white dudes?

Sam continues:

It costs $15 a month to message other members, and the site’s terms of service specifically prohibit messages that “promote racism, bigotry, [or] hatred. The site is not racially motivated in any way.

I knew there was some potential for backlash, but I’m not going to dodge it. No one who knows me would ever call me a racist.

Despite his dumb comments there, is Sam Russell doing anything wrong here? Not really, if you think about it. Yeah it might seem controversial at first but it’s not like the idea behind the site is “meet while people then go around beating up racial minorities and burning crosses”. It’s just a website for people who have a sexual preference for white people. No different than websites where overweight, vegetarian, short, tall, sign up to meet each other. Pretty sure all those websites legitimately exist. I just googled ‘Black People Meet’ and that website exists too. So what’s the problem?

Don’t worry about it Sam, you’re not doing anything wrong. However I’d advise you get a PR person or someone else to do your talking for you because those arguments you used were absolute waste.
