Wetherspoons is hardly likely to win any awards for being the best or most original pub in your area, but the fact is it’s way cheaper than anywhere else and you can always rely on that.

Whilst you’ll still be able to rely on Wetherspoons being cheaper than anywhere else, the sad news is that the pub chain is raising its prices in order to deal with the cost of living crisis and inflationary period that we’re all going through at the moment. Wetherspoons are increasing their prices by a whopping 7.5% meaning that the price of a pint will increase by 29p and a meal deal by 75p, which is quite a big jump when you think about it isn’t it?

Here’s what spokesman Eddie Gershon had to say about it:

Wetherspoon has increased prices on food and drink by 7.5%.

We believe that our prices are still very competitive in all the locations that we trade even after the increase.

Most businesses in the hospitality industry have had to deal with big price increases in the past year or two.

We have tried to keep our prices competitive, bearing in mind that customers have suffered from inflation too.

The 7.5% increase is less than the rate of inflation.

That does sound reasonable when it’s explained like that doesn’t it, but it’s still going to be incredibly disappointing for people that rely on Wetherspoons during these tough times as the sad reality is that this increase might mean that some people are priced out of their regular weekly social activity. Are things ever going to get better in this country? Again, the sad reality is that they’re probably not going to any time soon.
