2. China’s Smog So Bad They Broadcast Sunrise
China has long had a pretty hideous problem with poisonous smog and new steps to get round the problem have recently emerged. Rather than try and clean the air or minimise pollution they have started transmitting a live feed of the sunrise onto huge screens to try to give citizens of Beijing some kind of false hope. Apparently the move has been pretty popular and hundreds gather daily to watch.
Smog is a mixture of emissions, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. China’s recent smog measurements are 26 times higher than the 25 micrograms the World Health Organisation considers safe and the highest since January 2013.
