You wouldn’t believe it, but these horrors turn into a beautiful blue Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly. Look, it’s like the ugly duckling story, I love that story. I always hoped I would blossom into a beautiful butterfly/swan… maybe one day…
As youths they are blood-red, slowly turning black with bright orange horns as they mature. Metamorphosis is a weird thing isn’t? Apparently when a caterpillar gets into a chrysalis its body basically breaks down into a mush and is then rebuilt from scratch to create a butterfly or moth. Evolution is a nutter.
