Wayne Rooney is the greatest goalscorer in the history of the England national team, but it’s fair to say that the last time we saw him in the Premier League he wasn’t looking all that hot as he sat on the bench at Everton.

So it’s great to see him looking somewhat back to his best over in the MLS at his new home of DC United. Sure it’s a step down in terms of quality, but it’s nice to see Rooney with a smile on his face and killing it as his career winds down. Form is temporary, class is permanent.
This was illustrated yet again in DC United’s game against Orlando City last night, when Rooney picked up the ball inside his own half, saw the City goalkeeper off his line and decided to ping one over his head into the net. Talk about rolling back the years:
Everyone stop what you are doing, Wayne Rooney has just done this! 😳pic.twitter.com/0PiYwqIxfd

Bang. What a hit. DC United went on to win the game 1-0 and it was all thanks to Rooney’s moment of magic. Expect a couple more of them this season as he tends to pop up with a couple every year. But then he misses a penalty in the playoffs to send his team out. Doh!
