For the most part the majority of professional football players are fairly well behaved when it comes to taking abuse off the crowd, with Eric Cantona’s insane karate kick on a fan the only real example of player on fan violence that I can recall.

An Argentinian player named Sebastian Pol also wants to etch his name into football folklore for all the wrong reasons though and stepped up to the plate last weekend. Pol is currently plying his trade over in Chile for Audax Italiano and took things to the extreme when a rival fan was dissing him, launching an absolutely savage karate kick into his face that makes Cantona look like a pussy:

Jesus. Not really sure what was going on in that match or why Pol thought it would be a good idea to climb into the crowd, but you can’t deny that that kick was absolutely brutal. Surprised it didn’t knock the guy out to be honest.
Cantona was famously banned for eight months for his indiscretion, but this incident is being deemed so serious by footballing authorities over in Chile that people are talking about Pol possibly facing two years in jail for it, let alone just getting a ban from the pitch. He was arrested and questioned immediately after the game but he’ll have to wait a few days to see if he gets charged. He’s since apologised to the fan and his teammates, but I’m not sure if this will be enough to get him off the hook.
