I think it’s probably safe to say that anyone who’s working in security in this country has to be at least a little bit hard because you normally have to deal with any number of drunk and gakked up idiots at pretty much all times, but I didn’t expect a former heavyweight champion boxer would be picking up shifts at his local.

This isn’t the case if you’re visiting Boxpark Wembley though, where former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Julius Francis now works as a security guard. Julius held the straps from 1997 to 2001 and fought Mike Tyson, Audley Harrison and Vitali Klitschko during his career so it’s fair to say that he’s a heavy hitter.
He showed us all what he could do yesterday when some fella in a blue doorag shouted and swore at not only him but also customers at the venue, leaving Francis no other option but to spark the guy out cold. Check out the brutal footage below:

Wow. That really was all she wrote huh, sparking that guy out like an absolute bitch.
I suppose there’s a bit of a debate going around about whether the dude actually deserved it, but he was definitely being a major dickhead and putting his hands on other bouncers and looking as though he might start trouble, so I’m inclined to say that Francis did the right thing here. Probably didn’t realise that the guy had such a glass jaw either, but I think there’s definitely an argument that he deserved it anyway.
The founder of BoxPark also agrees with this analysis of the situation, posting the following statement about it on his LinkedIn page (of course):
Woke up to a viral story about one of our security team.
Julius Francis, is ex UK heavyweight boxing champion, he is one of the nicest people I have ever met and helps train young underprivileged kids boxing in his spare time.”
My understanding is that Julius and our security team spent 15 minutes stopping this man and his friends from abusing, spitting and hitting our customers and staff.
They carefully escorted him from the premises under constant provocation and violence. Finally the person approached Julius in a confrontational manner and he defended himself.
Acts of violence or abuse to any staff members should never be tolerated. How would you react if someone approached you violently? What would you do next if you were in my shoes? #istandwithjulius”.
Yeah I gotta say I gotta agree with him really. I dunno why the fight started, but the fact that the guy was getting so rowdy on a Monday afternoon in Wembley really makes me question what was going on with him. Normally I wouldn’t side with security on too much, but I think if the customer is being overly aggressive like this then they’ve gotta expect to be taken out. Fair play to Julius, although I hope that there’s no damage done to the guy except for his pride. What a loser.
For more of the same, check out this bouncer knock a kid out stone cold with one unreal sucker punch. Yeowch.
