It must be absolutely crazy to be on a plane with no idea about what’s happening when some monumental news story is breaking in the world below, but now we can see what it’s like thanks to a video from journalist Laerke Christensen.

Christensen was on a Transatlantic flight from New York to London when the news about the Queen’s death broke and decided to film the reaction of cabin crew and passengers as the pilot made the announcement via the PA system. You can see members of the cabin crew burst out in tears and other passengers look around in worry as they don’t really know what to do with themselves:

The Queen passed away earlier today with her family by her side.

I thought at the moment I should at least tell you that before you arrive at the terminal, because I know many will be very, very sad about this.

It will give you some time to reflect because we have 40 minutes before landing.

We will all be thinking about her family in this time.

Dramatic. Hope those people on the plane managed to reflect in this 40 minutes before they disembarked from the plane and met up with their families or whatever. Could have been a bit too emotional otherwise.
