It’s no secret that The Rock and Vin Diesel do not like each other. It pretty much stems from the fact that Dwayne Johnson’s character Hobbs became much bigger and more popular than Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise, which Diesel’s ego couldn’t handle.

Last night, Vin Diesel took to the stage to present an award at The Golden Globes, and gave a cheeky shout out to Dwayne Johnson who was sitting in the crowd:

Oh dear. The Rock didn’t seem too impressed with that, did he? Could have easily had another Will Smith/Chris Rock moment there if Vin Diesel had carried on. Previously in their beef, Vin Diesel had put out a very public and desperate (and also weird and passive aggressive) plea to Dwayne Johnson to re-join the Fast & Furious franchise:

Bit of an outrageous move by Vin Diesel to refer to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as his little brother when The Rock is taller, heavier, stronger and an infinitely bigger movie star than him. He even purposely posted a picture that somehow makes him look bigger than The Rock! Bit of a weird way to go about things when asking the guy for a favour. Was he trying to make him mad or what?

Worse still, Diesel brought his kids and the late Paul Walker into it, which I guess was a way to make The Rock feel like an a*sehole if he didn’t accept Diesel’s offer. Did it work? Hell no. The Rock later responded with the following (via Page Six):

I was very surprised by Vin’s recent post. This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly — and privately — that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.

Vin’s recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise with gratitude and grace.

Unsurprisingly, Dwayne Johnson isn’t that easy to manipulate, and Vin Diesel just ended up looking even more daft than he did at the beginning of all this by falling out with the most likable guy in Hollywood. What is he thinking now by throwing out a cheeky little “hey Dwayne” at the Golden Globes? Probably not much, but there’s about 6 millions news articles already dissecting this 3-second moment so we thought we’d get in on the action too. Thanks for reading.
