So how and why? Well, the ‘why’ seems like it was just because it sounded mad and would get them publicity. The ‘how’ is thanks to Ramsey Aburdene, a guy that manages the duo who’s an investment banker with a passion for helping up and coming rap stars. Ramsey has an ex-military friend who can get people into North Korea, he’s a fixer who ensures the right forms are signed and the right boxes are ticked.
So they’ve got the cash, they’ve got the visa. Uh oh, they’re gonna have to go. So they did.
When they first started talking about their trip to North Korea, Pacman and Peso were posturing about how they fear nothing, but as the day approached they were a little more concerned. I guess pretty much everyone they spoke to told them it was a bad idea. But on the other hand, as they both said in numerous interviews, it’s not as if the area they live in is particularly safe, so whatever. They’re used to daily danger as it is.
Their journey began with a skip through some Asian countries, starting in China. The entire trip was almost scuppered at their first destination: Shanghai. Peso rented a motorbike in Beijing and proceeded to collide with a car near Tienanmen square. He wasn’t insured so his street mentality kicked in and he legged it from the scene. Pacman was then surrounded by angry Chinese folks and it took a bit of negotiating and a trip to a garage before they could move on. That little incident caused them to miss their connecting flight to Mongolia’s capital Ulan Bator.
It looked like they might not even make it to North Korea at all?
