Nicolas Cage is one of the most ridiculous actors in history and I think it’s a real shame that he never really managed to bag himself a role as a traditional superhero over the years. I don’t think Ghost Rider or Big Daddy in ‘Kickass’ really count unfortunately.

Anyway I might have already known this, but back in 1997 Tim Burton was gearing up to make a Superman movie with Nicolas Cage entitled ‘Superman Lives’ where he would be playing the titular character. The movie never made it out of pre-production for whatever reason – probably some disagreements with the studio or whatever – but a clip has emerged on Twitter of Cage trying on the Superman suit and discussing it with Burton and it’s a pretty magical behind the scenes moment.

Wow it’s really cute how they’re so excited about it isn’t it? Although I gotta say I don’t think I’m that keen on the costume – sort of looks like a satire of The Homelander – but I guess back in 1997 those were the kind of outfits that superheroes were being decked out in.

This was the era of Joel Schumacher’s Batman with nipples and Bryan Singer’s X Men in leather remember, so what else are we going to expect from Tim Burton’s Superman? Could have been real iconic if it hadn’t had the plug pulled on it. Oh well.
