I never really thought that alligators were cannibals and would eat other alligators, but it turns out I’m completely wrong judging by this video taken by a guy called Alex Figueroa at the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland.

In the video you can quite clearly see a much larger alligator thoroughly eating smaller one. Figueroa was merely taking a morning walk through the nature reserve when he stumbled across the alligator who starts his meal in the water and then carries it onto the path to finish it off. Dinner time:

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife commission officer Gary Morse this isn’t uncommon:

It’s typcial alligator behiavior. They are cannibalistic at times.

Sometimes it can be territorial, but very often alligators it’s just cannibalistic.

What alligators will typically do is they’ll take that animal and stuff it some place for a week or two until it gets nice and soft and they can tear it apart.

So yeah, now you know. For more weird alligator stories, check out this one about a guy who kept one tied up so he could repeatedly rape it.
