This “fashion” slowly died out in the early 20th Century as cameras became more commonplace and so a picture taken after death seemed less important.
It’s a pretty dark art, but it’s got some beauty to it. You’re not likely to hang one on your wall, but at the same time you can’t deny there’s some pretty full-on emotion in them.
