As the 10s move forward, two things that the decade will probably be forever associated with are the rise in both avocado consumption and veganism, so it makes sense that somebody would combine these two concepts with another old favourite and come up with an avocado based vegan ice cream. Just when you thought 2018 couldn’t get any more extra, right?

The culprits are an American family from Iowa and they’ve been producing the frozen dessert since 2015. It’s called Cado Ice Cream and there are currently three flavours to choose from: Deep Dark Chocolate, Simply Lemon, and Mint Chocolate Chip. Kinda weird that out of three flavours one of them is lemon – does anyone pick lemon when they have a choice of ice cream? – but I can get behind the other two for sure. Love Mint Chocolate Chip.
However, I’m not that sure if I can get behind the idea that it’s an avocado based vegan ice cream though because its just so bougey isn’t it? I mean it’s just the kind of thing you could see someone wearing sandals picking up on their cycle back from their early morning yoga class isn’t it? It’s just so peak 2018 and I just don’t know how I feel about all that.
Jack Dowd – the founder of Cado – had the following to say about his product:
The avocado base offers more nutrition and a superior fat, doesn’t compete with traditional ice cream flavours, has a really creamy quality just like ice cream, and you can indulge but still feel good after eating it. Everybody should be eating this, we thought!
Well yeah they would think that wouldn’t they considering it’s their business. In all seriousness though, it does sound like a pretty healthy idea that could literally revolutionise the ice cream industry if it tastes as good as these guys are saying. I just wish it didn’t sum up 2018 so well.
If you can’t stand avocados, then read this. You’re not alone.
