It’s never nice to write a story about someone dying, but it is kinda funny to write a story about someone who has died in one of the freakiest set of circumstances ever. Better than just writing your regular obituary anyway.

We’re over in the city of Alwar in Rajasthan, India for this one, where 82 year old Shivdayal Sharma was killed instantly when he was hit by a flying cow – or more specifically part of a flying cow. Sharma was innocently minding his own business and peeing on the side of the nearby railway track, when a train travelling around 100mph slammed into a cow that was trespassing on the track, obliterating it instantly and sending part of it flying into the poor guy.

Doesn’t sound like something that would happen in reality, but here’s an official looking tweet that proves that it actually happened:

Seems pretty official to me? There was also apparently another guy pxssing next to Sharma who narrowly escaped the wrath of the flying cow too. Imagine being that guy and seeing your mate wiped out by a flying cow. Traumatising.

The Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the following about the incident:

The Vande Bharat has always had problems with cows.

Collisions are unavoidable.

Measures have been put in place to try and minimise the risk of cows on the line, such as the cleaning of garbage and removal of wild vegetation near tracks and frequent whistling at locations prone for cattle/animal run over.

Western Railways have also decided to put metal fencing along stretches of track stop animals from straying onto the tracks and prevent accidents.

Kinda seems like maybe they shouldn’t have built a high speed railway line in the area if cows are going to always be wandering onto the track? Or maybe put in more precautions than frequent whistling or whatever? Seems very short sighted and like more accidents are probably going to happen unless they do something about it?

Anyway, RIP Shivdayal Sharma. Hopefully his death isn’t in vain and they add a few more precautions in here.
