New music isn’t hard to find these days, but there’s an awful lot of it about thanks to the technology of the 21st century. Unsigned artists are plentiful, and although quality can waiver amongst the masses there is still a lot of great talent out there to stumble upon. Being signed is obviously a big deal, but the confidence and creativity of artists held up only by their fanbase and buzz shows that it’s not the be all and end all. Getting signed is a full time job, but being unsigned has the perks of a freelancer.
I’ve selected five new music videos from five unsigned artists/bands to showcase this week – all featuring hard work, creative vigour and good vibes.
1. Princess Nokia – Dragons
[TEST url=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dncs8LscyU8′]
You may know Princess Nokia by her previous moniker Wavy Spice. She’s recently reflourished as a technological empress and ‘Dragons’ is the latest track from her interesting new direction. Wavy Spice was more of a feminist poet, speaking on anything and everything over jumpy house inspired beats whilst gyrating in youthful sports attire with her female dance performers but Princess Nokia is more relaxed and perhaps even grown up affair. Produced by OWWWLS, ‘Dragons’ features Wavy and her IRL boyfriend (Wiki from Ratking) on a cute and casual date at the arcade before heading home to watch movies and soap up amidst anime flashbacks.
