Carlos Prates is 4-0 in the UFC with four massive knockouts (all this year) and is officially ranked as the #13 Welterweight in the world as of right now, and amazingly, he’s managed all that while also smoking 8-10 cigarettes a day. Which may not sound like much to a smoker (there’s people out there clocking 2 packs a day), but you’d think it wouldn’t be ideal for a high-level professional athlete.
smokes 8-10 cigs a day.
goes and knocks everyone out.

A while back, this video went viral of him discovering the UFC had gifted him a $50,000 bonus as he smoked a cigarette after a fight…

There’s no denying it – the guy is addicted to cigarettes. During the interview with Ariel Helwani, he mentioned that he’d been smoking since 12 years old and was stunned to learn that Helwani had never smoked a cigarette in his life. He doesn’t stop smoking during his fight camps or even on the days of his fights – he just keeps smoking up until they arrive at the venue where it’s not allowed. He’d probably smoke between rounds if they let him!
No wonder he keeps finishing his opponents so quickly – the sooner he KO’s them, the sooner he can get that sweet, sweet hit of nicotine in his lungs.
It will be interesting to see how Carlos Prates copes when one of his fights inevitably goes past the second round, though. Will his cardio hold up? I guess we’ll find out.
