The Ulrika Johnsson/Sven-Goren Eriksson affair was big news in 2002, and it’s no secret that things ended badly between the two, but it’s still surprising that she’s put out such a cold statement in regards to the former England manager’s terminal cancer diagnosis this week.
Ulrika insisted she “didn’t have anything to say” after Eriksson, 75, announced he had roughly 12 months to live. Taking to Instagram, the 56-year-old shared a throwback photo of herself, along with the words:
“Look at me being all young all that. I don’t have anything to say about Sven. #nada. Not a decent person.”
Well, I guess it’s fair enough if she doesn’t want to comment on the situation, but to wait until the guy is terminally ill before putting out a statement like that isn’t the classiest move in the world. Obviously, Sven did make her look like a bit of prat back in 2002 by first denying that they had an affair, and then admitting that they did but that he decided to stick with Italian lawyer girlfriend Nancy Dell’Olio.
Of course, Nancy later dumped Sven after he cheated on her again, this time with FA secretary Faria Alam. In his heyday, Sven-Goran Eriksson was slaying women left, right and centre!
When Ulrika initially confirmed her affair with Sven, Nancy shut down speculation, branding Ulrika’s claims “a publicity attempt”. Ulrika later claimed that Sven had promised to break up with Nancy, but went back on his word. She said publicly: “Sven is behaving like a lying cad. He promised me it was over with Nancy but then takes her out to dinner and doesn’t even call me.”
Sven eventually admitted to the affair in his 2013 memoir in which he explained they met at a function in Manchester: “I was there with some people from the FA. For some reason, Ulrika was also invited. We met at the hotel the evening before and ended up spending the night together. Ulrika said she was writing a book about her life. ‘Don’t worry, Sven,’ she said. ‘You won’t be in it. After that, Ulrika and I met when we could. Not daily, but now and then. It got to be more and more serious. Nancy did not suspect anything. She was travelling to Italy a lot during that time.”
Here’s Sven sharing news of his diagnosis earlier this week:

Poor guy. Here’s hoping he powers through as best he can and makes the most of the time he’s got left. Come on Ulrika, let bygones be bygones and send him your best! Or would that be weird now?
