I’m not sure why, but whenever I used to put up a story about a sniper taking out a member of ISIS or Al Qaeda from really far away it used to do really well, so let’s hope the same can be said of a Ukrainian taking out a Russian soldier.

The Ukrainian military is claiming that one of its snipers took out a Russian soldier from a distance of 1.68 miles (2,710 metres), which nearly broke the world record set by a Canadian sniper from Joint Task Force 2. He neutralised an Islamic State target in Iraq at a distance of 2.19 miles (3,540 metres) back in 2017.

The National Guard Of Ukraine obtained a video of the shot and congratulated the sniper, saying the following:

With the onset of dusk, snipers of special forces units of the National Guard go hunting.

Very quick and accurate work by one of them last night.

The sniper came very close to the world record for the longest combat sniper shot.

The occupier was eliminated by a precise shot of our special forces from a distance of 2,710 metres – a distance that now ranks 2nd in the world ranking, confirmed by the command of the Armed Forces.

We would like to remind [people] that the first place in the world is occupied by a shot from a Canadian sniper at a distance of 3,540 metres [11,614 feet] while performing a task in Iraq.

The second place belonged to the British Craig Harrison, at a distance of 2,475 metres [8,120 feet].

Damn, way to rub it in hey Ukraine. Bet Craig Harrison is pretty miffed about that, although at this point you probably have to be thankful at this point that it seems as though the Ukraine is making some progress against the Russians. And breaking some world records whilst they’re at it as well. Badass.
