We haven’t heard that much about the war in Ukraine bar the initial concern and a recent major victory for the Ukrainians, but here’s a heartwarming tale about how the country’s football hooligans put aside their differences to combat Putin’s forces.

Maugly belongs to the Hood Hoods Klan – an anti-fascist, anti-racist ultra group that follow the now-bankrupt Arsenal Kyiv – but was happy to go into battle against Russia with Nazi ultras aligned with Dynamo Kiev, even admitting that he cried at one of their funerals after he was killed in battle. Here’s what he had to say:
I fight for two weeks and work for two weeks.
Fighting for me is like a secret life, like Clark Kent and Superman.
Your enemy becomes your close friend as you know this guy won’t be scared on a mission.
It’s normal for him to risk his life for a fight.
The fact I was able to form a bond with someone with such differing views gives me hope for Ukraine after the war.
People need to band together because for Russia it’s a war for the elimination of Ukraine and Ukrainian people.
The Hood Hoods Klan knew the war was coming ever since the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
We bought AK47s in preparation for a full-scale Russian invasion.
It was only a matter of time.
What an absolute badass and it sounds like his efforts have actually achieved a fair bit too, as his mortar unit recently helped liberate the villages of Shestakove and Peremoha in the Kharkiv region. Maugly was even recognised with a special medal for his defence of Kharkiv on Ukraine’s Defender Day. Keep it up king.
