We haven’t really talked much about Elon Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter and the fact that he doesn’t really seem to know what he’s doing and is laying off roughly half the staff today, so here’s a quick update about how his staff are now comparing him to a genocidal supervillain.

That’s right, in news that shouldn’t really surprise anyone, Elon Musk has started to be referred to as Thanos by his current and former employees. Obviously that’s in reference to Thanos’ famous ‘Snap’ which decimated half the population of the entire universe.
You get it right? Twitter employees are comparing their job situation to the universe. That’s maybe a bit sad but you can get why nobody would want to lose their job at a company they’ve been working at for a long time. Nobody wants to lose their job period I suppose.
The revelations were brought to us via a thread from a writer at the tech website Platform named Casey Newton:
The company is closing its offices and suspending all badge access while the layoffs unfold. The company asked everyone to go home.

In Slack, dozens of employees are posting the 🫡 emoji as a possible farewell.
Anticipating the loss of half their colleagues, some have begun calling Friday “The Snap” and posting Thanos memes.

Also worth noting: the email that just went out to every Twitter employee is unsigned.
Whatever is about to happen, Elon is not putting his name on it.

Wow. It certainly doesn’t sound like a good time to be a Twitter employee does it? I suppose by the time you’re reading this 50% of them will know whether they still have jobs or not. A week seems like a very short turnaround to decide the worth of 3700 people’s live doesn’t it, but I suppose Elon only cares about the bottom line doesn’t he? Can certainly see this ending up like when Justin Timberlake bought MySpace though.
Be interesting to see how many people actually end up leaving Twitter after loads of celebrities have threatened to move off it due to Musk’s acquisition. We’ll see I suppose. The Thanos comparison is scarily accurate though.
