It seems Americans are keen to blame anyone and anything for the Texas school shootings except for their dumb gun laws, and this includes ‘transsexual leftist illegal aliens’.

Unfortunately for Reddit user Apprehensive_Ad_995 AKA transgender woman Sam from Georgia, USA, she does bear something of a resemblance to shooter Salvador Ramos. When an image of Ramos began doing the rounds, other Reddit users were convinced it was Sam, who had shared her images onto the site 3 months ago. The rumour spread in no time from Reddit to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, with loads of people convinced Sam was the Texas shooter who killed 19 children and 2 adults, before being shot dead by police.

In the end, Sam had to get on Reddit and clarify that ‘it’s not me. I don’t even live in Texas’, while sharing a new picture next to the trans flag to prove she was still alive in Georgia and not shot dead by police after going on a shooting spree in Texas…

So that’s that I suppose. We’re still no clearer on the real shooter’s motive and whether Salvador Ramos identified as transgender (not that it’s relevant to the shooting) – although it wouldn’t surprise me given this photo doing the rounds…

Either way, it’s scary how quickly the misinformation re the identity of the shooter spread around the internet. It’s not going to get any better as technology advances and deep-fakes become more realistic. Whatever you think of someone’s politics or gender identity or whatever – it’s seriously f****d up to accuse them of a crime they did not commit. Good thing it’s all been cleared up now.
