A transgender Starbucks manager who went viral for freaking out at a customer who misgendered a colleague, and then assaulted her partner who was filming the whole thing, has been sacked by the coffee chain.
Luna Spain, 28, who managed the branch in Southampton, lost the plot after the customer used the word ‘lady’ to describe a non-binary barista. Watch below:
TERMINATED: Starbucks tell me the violent trans employee seen in this clip from April 30 in Southampton has been SACKED.

Fair play to Starbucks for doing the right thing, as it seems obvious this customer made a genuine mistake when they referred to Luna’s non-binary colleague as a lady. I mean really, how the hell is some middle-aged Karen going to assume that someone is anything other than the gender that they appear to be? Obviously inclusion is a good thing, but we need to make sure we still punish people for bad behaviour, including those who inclusivity is intended to help the most.
Vanessa Thomas, 55, explained what she said to accidentally kickstart the whole incident:
‘I was speaking with somebody who I thought was a lady behind the counter who was serving me. I complained that this is another company that doesn’t take cash and that I don’t like using contactless cards because I don’t want anybody to know what I’m buying.
The trans store manager then jumped in and I said, “I’m not talking to you, I’m talking to the lady behind the counter.”
And that’s when the store manager went totally ballistic, came around from behind the counter and confronted me.’
Naturally, MailOnline did some digging and managed to speak to Luna’s neighbours in Southampton, and it seems the viral clip has sent shivers through the community, with many now terrified of accidentally offending Luna. One neighbour said:
‘Luna has a partner, and they seem a nice enough couple but don’t say a lot to us. Nobody around here has a problem with her sexuality, but people are quite scared of offending her if they say the wrong thing.
You saw what happened in the Starbucks and people don’t want that happening to them. Sometimes you can get your genders mixed up as it’s become quite a complicated world.’
Better mind their P’s and Q’s (or should that be M’s and F’s?) around Luna then. No one wants to have those hands violently clapped in their face like that.
