Back when you were a kid, there wasn’t much better than being driven to the massive Toys R Us store in the middle of nowhere and wandering the aisles looking for the best new action figures, so it was a sad day when it was announced back in 2018 that the company would be going into liquidation.

Thankfully though, someone out there must have remembered the potential and strength of the brand as WHP Global acquired it back in 2021 and quickly partnered with Macy’s over in America. They immediately started selling Toys R Us products via their website and have now revealed that they’re going to start opening up mini outlets in their department stores all over the US. The first of these are set to open in mid July and will continue to do so until mid October – just in time for Christmas.
There’s also positive news about Toys R Us reopening in the UK. They’ve signed a licensing agreement that allows them to sell physical and digital retail commerce in the country and are planning to open some stores before the end of the year, with the chief executive of Toys R Us Australia, Louis Mittoni, helping the UK re-launch along.
Here’s what he had to say about the process:
I’m very excited to welcome over 100 years of retailing experience in our new team, who will lead the relaunch our iconic brand back into the UK market in the next few months. We have an amazing toy and baby buying team, which I believe is the best in the country.
With this team now in place, we’re hitting the ground running and have been reaching out to the supply base to see with whom we can align on this amazing journey.
Buzzing. I doubt I’m going to spend as much time as I used to in Toys R Us in the near future – or any time at all really – but it’s still great to know that it will be there once again and hopefully provide the next generation with as much fun as it once did for me. Let’s hope so anyway.
For more of the same, check out when this guy crashed into Toys R Us then rampaged around the store naked with a cricket bat. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again.
