It was understandable for there to be unrest at Tottenham Hotspur when their all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane, parted ways with the club over the summer.

For years there had been rumblings of a departure and, now, with Kane plying his trade in Germany with Bayern Munich, Spurs are showing that a club is more than just one player after a strong start to the Premier League season.

Manner Of Kane Exit Was Right

While there was plenty of concern that Kane was moving on to pastures new, the manner of his exit from the north London outfit was well handled. Spurs, who with football betting today are 10/1 to win the 2023/24 Premier League title, fended off interest from other English clubs before allowing Kane to move on to Bavarian giants, Bayern Munich. Tottenham, who are 8/11 with Premier League bets to finish in the top four this season, would have been foolish to allow the striker to leave Spurs to strengthen a rival English club. Instead, an amicable parting of ways was delivered, with England captain Kane now shining in the German top flight and Champions League.

Kane’s exit was not the easiest media story to handle for new manager Ange Postecoglou but the Australian tactician coped with it well. Focusing on what he did have at his disposal, Postecoglou was able to move on from the story quickly and results at the start of the season have certainly helped his cause. Unbeaten in their first nine games, with 23 points in that time, Spurs have raised eyebrows with how they have been able to cope without Kane in this early stage of the season.

Son Can Flourish In Kane’s Absence

Often seen in Kane’s shadow in recent years, Son Heung-min is now the main man at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The South Korean international has made the central attacking role his own and seems to be enjoying the responsibility of stepping up and filling the void left by Kane in the goal department. Son has certainly not disappointed in that regard, scoring seven goals in his first nine Premier League games of the season. With blistering pace and a composed finish, the 31-year-old has been proving more than a handful for defenders this term.

Kane and Son had formed one of the most prolific partnerships in Premier League history and to have that broken up was going to be a challenge. What has made Kane’s exit also easier is the arrival of James Maddison from relegated Leicester City over the summer. The creative midfielder has settled in quickly to life in the capital, with three goals and five assists in his first nine Premier League games for Spurs. It looks like Maddison and Son are forming a strong partnership at Tottenham, which will be much to the delight of Postecoglou.

There can be no doubt Kane will go down as one of the greatest players in Tottenham’s history but it’s exciting to see this new direction for Spurs and where it can take them in the future.
