One of the biggest marketing disasters of all time, New Coke was Coca-Cola’s way of competing with Pepsi. They changed their recipe to match Pepsi’s sweet taste, alienating their fan-base at the same time who saw their preference to drink Coke in the first place completely obliterated. Huge backlash ensued so Coca-Cola put the regular coke back on the shelves as Coke Classic and a few years later New Coke was just a distant memory. Unless, of course, you live in American Samoa where it weirdly took off.
