3) St Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church, USA
This bad boy is actually pretty ugly. But what I like about it is that it’s in Chicago and not Russia. It look pretty Baltic, and so it should, being Ukranian I guess. Apparently it’s a Betrothed Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church whatever that may entail. It’s got 13 domes, one for each of the apostles and one for the big man Jesus himself. It was built in the 50’s, and if you ask me it could do with a lick of paint. Maybe a nice mint green colour? Or puce? But once you get inside… BOOM! How about this for a mega colour scheme?
4) Cathedral of Saint Basil the Blessed, Russia
This little ripper is in Moscow’s Red Square as everyone knows. It looks amazing. No lick of paint needed here. To make it even cooler it was built in the 1500’s by Ivan the Terrible to celebrate the capture of the Khanate of Kazan. Legend has it (which basically means it’s not true) that Ivan blinded the architect after it’s completion so that he couldn’t build anything more beautiful. Apparently the architect did go on to design more, I don’t know if they were as fresh as this bad boy though. And the interior doesn’t disappoint either…
I couldn’t resist a picture of Ivan the Terrible, he really does look terrible. He was incredibly prone to rage and historians think he was probably mentally ill. If this painting doesn’t show a terrible man then I don’t want to ever see a terrible man:
