Weird News - Christopher Roupe shot dead by police Wii

This is a dark one, sorry to leave you on a downer. We’re in Euharlee, Georgia, USA and 17-year-old Christopher Roupe is settling down to watch a movie through his Wii console. He hears a knock at the door and gets up to see who it is.

He calls through the door to ask who’s there but hears no response. Roupe opens the door and according to eye witnesses was almost immediately shot in the chest at point-blank range by a policewoman.

WTF? Exactly. It turns out that the police officers were visiting Christopher’s home to serve a warrant on his father over a probation violation. It seems that the innocuous Wii controller in Christopher’s hand was mistaken for a firearm and the officer reacted. Awfully.

Another eye-witness said that the female officer was obviously distressed after the incident, and you would be wouldn’t you? The witness said “This is tragic. She came out of this house. She put her head in her hands and she was sobbing”.

It’s just horrible all round. There’s no winners at all here. The officer has unsurprisingly been put on leave until the investigation is completed. Hurray for guns.

Well, I’ll leave it there for now, that’s quite enough bleakness for one day. If you spot any weird news items yourself make sure to contact me direct yeah?: @timboynewtron
