2) Brit Swallows Pink Diamond
Last Saturday an English backpacker allegedly stole and swallowed a rare pink diamond worth about £108,000. Matthew Osborne appeared before Cairns Magistrates’ Court accused of snatching the Argyle stone from a jewellers in Cairns. He was arrested as he attempted to get a flight to New Zealand to make good his escape.
Osborne has admitted to stealing the diamond and swallowing it but the police don’t believe him. They think he’s stashed it elsewhere. X-Rays haven’t shown the precious stone chilling out in his bowels so Osbourne is likely to be questioned for quite some time about the matter.
It always strikes me as strange that a stone, however sparkly, could be worth such cash and Kerfuffle.
