You might also have heard that Mike Ashley is a big fan of casinos – rumour has it that he met current Newcastle manager Alan Pardew in a casino – and he was involved in one of the biggest wins ever a few years ago in 2008 at the Fifty London casino in Mayfair. He made a bet known as a ‘complete’ based around his favourite number 17 and staked £480,000 on it, allegedly to make an impact and impress other patrons at the casino. After one spin, with the ball landing on 17 he was almost £1 million pounds richer. This was thanks to the ball landing on 17, on a black number, an odd number and betting that it would land between 1 and 18.

You might think that Ashley already has all the luck as he’s a billionaire and the 56th richest man in Britain, but that isn’t exactly true as he’s also been on the receiving end of some pretty bad losing streaks, like in 2011 when he lost £1 million in two hours.
