4) Iraq Attacks – May 2013

In May 2013 at least 449 people were killed and 732 injured through another deadly series of bombings and shoot outs. As with the July attacks in Iraq mentioned above, it involved Sunni Muslims kicking against their perceived hardships at the hands of a Shia government.

The attacks were once again varied in focus, they hit checkpoints, a mosque which was holding a remembrance service for past victims, another mosque holding morning prayers followed by an attack at the same mosque minutes later as people rushed in to save the survivors; they hit a police recruit centre, a cafe, markets, a shopping centre and yet another funeral procession.
