I was absolutely certain that I would be writing multiple stories about Julia Wendell this week, but I had no clue that someone was going to expose her as making the whole debacle up in an effort to further her singing career. Definitely did not see that one coming.

The accusation has been made by a TikToker by the name of Chris Chandler, who is apparently a freelance journalist that interviewed her before she hooked up with Dr Fia Johansson and she started gatekeeping access to her. Chandler is claiming that Johansson is using Wendell to further her own agenda – although he isn’t quite clear what that is – and thinks that Wendell has made the whole thing up to increase her profile so that she can pursue a career in singing.

There’s two sides, either she believes she’s Madeleine McCann and is the real deal and I’ve been miraculously wrong over the last week, or she is Madeleine – and oh my goodness what a massive story that would be.
But this could all be an elaborate hoax for her to push her career. Her mother said in a statement that she always wanted to be a singer. This is when I started to connect the dots.
Perhaps this is just to do with her music career because I find it very, very suspicious because the family are saying that she is lying, it’s a hoax and that she wants to become a singer and then all of a sudden she’s doing karaoke on Instagram and apparently she’s written 72 songs!
Every time something comes out it’s posted on her Instagram story. As Julia was leaving for Poland she [Johansson] said to her ‘what would you like to say to your fans and followers?’
Someone claiming she is, or could be Madeleine McCann…you wouldn’t use the terminology ‘fans’ or ‘followers’ would you?”
Chris is sticking by his initial intuition, that Julia is not Madeleine.
I’m 99.9% convinced that she’s not Madeleine McCann in my mind. I definitely do think she does need support, whatever the outcome is the girl needs help.
She was a really lovely girl.
It would be a very sick thing if it turns out that she is part of this hoax as well.
OK so I think that this guy is just basing his assumptions that Julia wants to develop a singing career on the fact that Johansson posted up a video of her doing karaoke? And maybe the fact that she may have written 72 songs about her experience? Seems like a bit of stretch.
I’m also confused about what kind of audience anyone involved with this project thinks songs about being raped and tortured as a child and possibly being Madeleine McCann would appeal to? Seems like a terribly niche areea and a weird set of people, if they even exist. Is it death metal or a similar genre?
Anyway, hopefully it won’t be long until Wendell’s DNA results come back and everyone can stop talking about her as she scuttles back into her corner all ashamed. Imagine I’ll probably write about ten more dumb stories about her before then though.
