Even though it’s been around for a while now I still find TikTok kinda confusing (OK boomer) and even more so when I find out a story like this about it, regarding how a banned movie has somehow gone viral on the platform and is traumatising users.

The movie in question is called ‘Megan Is Missing’ and comes from writer-director Michael Goi back in 2011. It’s a found footage movie that deals with the disappearance of a young girl after she meets a man online, but at the time of its release it was accused of overly sexualising its characters and going too far with some of its graphic content. It was subsequently banned in New Zealand.

However, now for some reason it’s now gone viral in TikTok and is freaking out most of the people who are watching it. In fact, it’s become such a big deal that Goi himself has even created his own TikTok account to explain himself.

That’s just really weird isn’t it? I know they say you can never plan what goes viral and it looks as though that’s still true in the TikTok age as who would have thought some weird teenage rape movie would have gone viral on the platform ten years after its release?

I haven’t seen ‘Megan Is Missing’ myself and I don’t think I’m going to bother after I just read the Wikipedia summary of it as it sounds pretty horrific and disgusting. If you wanna check it out though be my guest – make sure you do a TikTok reaction video though of course. Prob read Wikipedia first as well to make sure you really wanna be subjected to what happens in it as well.
