Three young Bolivian brothers were hospitalised after getting a black widow spider to bite them – thinking it would turn them into Spider-Man, according to the NY Post.

The Marvel-loving siblings – aged 12, 10 and 8 – came across the spider while herding goats in Chayanta and couldn’t let the opportunity to potentially transform into Spider-Man pass. So they prodded the black widow with a stick until it bit each of them, and then waited around for their superhero powers to come into effect.

Unfortunately that did not happen and the three brothers started crying instead after being overcome by immense pain. Their mum rushed them to hospital, where they ended up being transferred to two more hospitals, experiencing fevers, tremors and muscle pains over the next few days.

The good news is the boys were successfully treated and made a full recovery a week after being bitten. They have not reported any noticeable superhero abilities which is a bit of a bummer.

I think we can all agree it was worth a try though, even if there was only a tiny chance the three brothers would turn into Spider-Man after being bitten. Unfortunately they forgot the part where the spider needs to be radioactive and exist within the Marvel Universe as opposed to real life. Even still you can’t let the opportunity pass you by, especially when you’re within the 8 – 12 age range and think there is a legit shot of it happening. The reward of becoming Spider-Man was definitely worth the risk of being poisoned and in excruciating pain for a week. At least now they can say they tried.
