It feels like we’re regularly writing about psychopaths targeting people in McDonald’s and I’ve got to ask why it’s such a popular restaurant for these kind of incidents to happen in? Really can’t see the attraction of it compared to KFC or Burger King for example.

Anyway, this time we’re in Devon where a homeless man named Edward Wright tried to rob a petrol station and then turned his attention to a nearby McDonald’s. Wright had been drinking heavily and hadn’t taken his meds for his bipolar disorder and chased a man that he had tried to mug with a knife from the petrol station to the McDonald’s across the street in St Austell (pictured below) at around 6:30 a.m.

Once there, Wright banged on the window with his knife after staff had locked it, trying to get their attention. He then proceeded to get his dick out and wave it at members of staff and customers before attacking the branch manager and eventually being arrested.

Judge Robert Linford sentenced him to 32 months in jail after he plead guilty to charges of robbery, possessing a knife, assault, criminal damage and exposure. He said this upon handing down his judgment:

You were threatening and menacing and completely out of control.

You threatened someone by making demands of their keys and wallet and the person concerned flees.

You, it seems, head off to McDonald’s nearby. You try to get in and smash the door.

You wave your genitals around because you are drunk and stupid. On top of all that, you threaten Mr Milner who happens to be just minding his own business.

I accept the very difficult circumstances you were living in. That was not your fault that you were homeless.

It’s to your credit that you’ve expressed remorse and accepted your behaviour was threatening but the fact remains that you were under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.

I suppose it’s fair enough really – you can’t really act like that and expect to not be reprimanded for it, even if you are homeless and completely off your face. Let’s hope Edward can complete his prison sentence and get back on track.
