3) Mosquitoes (Culicidae)

Mosquitos, as I think you can guess, have made it onto this list for being complete bastards. No one likes them.

Malaria infects around 247 million people worldwide each year, and kills nearly one million. But it’s not just malaria that mosquitoes spread (although that’s enough in itself to make the grade) they also spread yellow fever, dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis, Rift Valley fever, Chikungunya virus and West Nile virus. Cheers cunts.

Then there’s the pest factor: they can form swarms thick enough to asphyxiate caribou in Alaska. And speaking as someone who’s personally tried to asphyxiate a caribou, I can tell you that’s no mean feat.

Any animal that is totally removed from the environment is going to make quite a difference, but scientists reckon that if we did manage to rid the earth of mosquitoes, other things would probably fill their niche pretty rapidly. I’m up for risking it personally, and plenty of scientists are genuinely attempting it as we speak. KILL THEM ALL.
