The Walking Dead Continues Onward After Three Spin-Offs

The Walking Dead was once among the biggest names on television: a must-watch prestige TV show blurring the lines between blockbuster movies and weekly episodes. The constant threat of nibbling zombies and even more menacing humans almost always paid off, with even the most beloved characters being punished for the slightest of slip-ups.

While not with the total collapse of storytelling seen in certain prestige TV shows that came after, The Walking Dead naturally trailed off as it ended with Season 11. In its place, and in the place of other series that ran alongside it, came three spin-offs following main characters from the original show. Those three have now concluded, but they’re not the end.

AMC Happy To Run Even More Walking Dead

Even if its viewership didn’t hold at its peak, The Walking Dead remains a much-loved brand in entertainment. The shows continue to garner millions of viewers and its spin-off products regularly land among the most popular of their types. Take the online casino site from Paddy Power; ; it’s loaded with slots from different properties like The Terminator, Gladiator, and The Mummy (the good The Mummy, that is), with two TWD slots chief among them.

The Walking Dead Online Slot comes into play just after Negan’s grand entrance to the series, while The Walking Dead Cash Collect takes place a bit later and once Rosita became a true core character. Negan remains quite the draw for these slots and on TV, with Dead City – his spin-off with nemesis Maggie – earning two million viewers over its premiere weekend. That said, The Ones Who Live with Rick and Michonne debuted to three million.

Of course, everything that has been put to screen by AMC has been conjured up as a result of Robert Kirkman’s source material. His graphic novel series of the same name ran for 16 years and some 193 issues until 2019. The story concluded the adventures of the Grimes family, and a lot of what is now being written for TV deviates from those graphic novels – especially when it comes to the original character, Daryl Dixon. Even so, it seems like AMC has a stockpile of stories to tell in this zombie-infested world.

On the way for The Walking Dead

The final episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was titled “The Last,” and yet, there seems to be some idea that it won’t be the last. The final episode was certainly conclusive and would be fine as an end to Rick’s and Michonne’s story, but showrunner Scott M. Gimple says that he’s got plenty of ideas if it does get the green light. Andrew Lincoln has also told Entertainment Weekly that he may return via the statement, “Never say never.”

What is guaranteed is a second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Off in France, Dixon looks set to be chased down by his buddy Carol with the season’s long-form title being The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. There’s even a sneak peek for this new series. Season 2 of Dead City has been ordered, but nothing has come to light about it actually being in production. Filming is rumoured to be taking place this summer, though.

Importantly for The Walking Dead, there are plenty of loose ends revolving around Rick Grimes. Daryl went out looking for him, as did Morgan in another spin-off, so a conclusion to those searches would be fitting. Basically, though, while The Walking Dead continues to get viewers, there likely won’t be an end to its TV run.
