It’s shocking that the original (and greatest) version of The Office only ran for 14 episodes while the American version because of the most successful shows of all time, but it’s even more shocking that we’re now getting a third iteration of the show – this time from all the way in Australia.
I genuinely thought this was a parody trailer when I first watched it, but nope – it’s fully legit and is coming to Prime Video on October 18th:

Even worse than what you were expecting, right? Although maybe it’s unfair to judge the entire show off one trailer. Much of the criticism online isn’t too different from what UK Office fans were saying about the US version of the show when it came out; “it’s just the same characters but with different actors and accents”, “they’re going to use the same plot lines”, “the original was better” etc. And yet, the US Office turned out to be a massive hit. So why can’t the same be true of the Aussie version, even if it does feel 15 years too late?
Well anyway, I’m not sold by the trailer but maybe it will be worth checking out the first couple episodes when this arrives on Prime next month. At the very least, it could be a hit with Aussies who have never heard of The Office in the first place. How’s that for a bit of optimism?
P.S. Did you know that HBO paid James Gandolfini 3 million dollars to turn down the role of Michael Scott in the US Office? Read about it HERE if you don’t believe me.
