The Weeknd secured his first big acting gig alongside Lily-Rose Depp in new HBO show The Idol (a show he created, fyi), but he’s already managed to lose the series 100k viewers after people were left horrified by his dialogue during a sex scene.

The footage in question showed The Weeknd, AKA Abel Tesfaye, telling a naked and blindfolded woman to “f*ckin’ stretch that tiny little p*ssy” while she stuck her fingers in her mouth. He also tells her he’s going to make her ‘suffocate on my c*ck’, and other such full-on porn style dialogue.

I can’t share the whole awful scene on this blog as it’s a bit too NSFW, but it’s picked up tons of backlash with the show accused of being a ‘rape fantasy’, ‘misogynistic’, and just downright perverted.

It’s not just the Weeknd’s dialogue in this bedroom sex scene that’s turned people off, as viewers have been very critical of his acting as well. Apparently, he’s just not very good.

The show had come under fire even before its release earlier this year after Rolling Stone published an exposé featuring anonymous interviews with those who worked on the series. They alleged that the Weeknd and the show’s writers and producers had taken the show “disgustingly off the rails” to create a drama “about a man who gets to abuse this woman and she loves it”.

I guess it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the Weeknd would dream up a show like this. I mean, have you ever listened to his music? His lyrics are pure filth, but seem to fly under the radar because of his soft R&B melodies.

Seems he’s pretty much playing himself, really. Should probably just stick to music based on the receptions thus far though. Maybe Season 2 will be better?
