What Does The Future Hold?
The faces of global terrorism range from European, Arab, Asian, South American, to African. No one group is particularly exempt from these acts and as we move forward we need to understand that just because the media and our governments say so, Islamic terrorism is not the only form. When we look at the actual numbers on deaths, you’re more likely to be killed by domestic terrorism then by some foreigner from far away lands.
Paranoia and general fear is the entire point of terrorism. If we allow these savages from ALL types to cause us to react against our own best interests, then they have won. The best way to fight these egregious acts is to continue our way of life. Freedom of speech, assembly, equality, justice, and be seekers of truth. You can’t ever stop terrorism with a gun, a bomb, or simple words. Even removing weapons from your society does absolutely nothing as we saw in France and in the UK. Terrorists will always find a way to get past security checks and weapon bans. What we can do is be as prepared as possible and NEVER let these things destroy our sense of humanity and freedoms.
The future is likely to move in the direction of the lone wolf attacker. The unseen, friendly neighbour types. Police forces and governments constantly foil plots of mass destruction so it’s not like you need to worry about doing what you do everyday. But with raised security from around the world, we are most likely to see local bombings and shootings. Foreign terror attacks will become less and less prevalent as time progresses.
The unfortunate trend in America, Britain, and many parts of Europe is the increase of police forces interacting in the daily lives of the populace. The public outcry is at an all time high after the September 11 attacks, London bombings, and various others. People demand security at any cost and the result is decreases in civil liberties and constant inconveniences when travelling. If you have ever taken a flight inside the States, you know all to well just how absurd security can be. They practically want to anally probe you to search for bombs these days, yet huge gaps are seen. When I was travelling to Ferguson, Missouri to cover the protests, I noticed a TSA agent not even LOOKING at the X-Ray scanner. Seriously, my carry-on bag went through and he wasn’t even looking at it. But they insisted on doing a thorough (and invasive) pat down of my persons. So while these increased security measures appear to make you more safe, they actually really don’t.
