The Aurora Theatre shooting in America was similar to this. 12 killed and 70 wounded. This was dubbed the “Dark Knight Shootings” in some circles and the terrorist James Holmes was known as “The Joker”. In this case conspiracies ran wild as people said the images the media were showing were not the same man and they also brought up his educational background, that he worked in neuroscience and was working on some mind control project. While there is plenty of strange occurrences in this instance, I can’t personally say it didn’t happen or was some secret government project.
The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 was also one of these disastrous scenarios of a lone wolf. 27 were massacred, mostly children. There is not much that can be done to prevent attacks like this from happening. Banning guns from schools has been law for ages and yet it never stops the criminals. In fact they PICK schools because they are unarmed centres. Something to think about…
Media Terrorism is when news sources constantly bombard you with images, videos, and lengthy discussions with “experts” on terrorism or other terrible events. While most of us can agree that you must report on these things, often times the constant reminder and fear mongering leads to heightened fears and trauma. Many report having PTSD from watching the weeks of the 9/11 attacks and various other instances.
While most of us are not going to go into an uncontrollable panic and run into the streets screaming, it does have long term effects on mood, thoughts, and depression. This type is least talked about, but very impactful in the lives of people around the world. Basic human psychology shows that if you repeatedly show or talk about something you’re more likely to be motivated and effected by it.
