In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new film starring Peter Andre as a fake Jamaican gangster coming out, and as you might’ve guessed, there’s a bit of controversy over the Mysterious Girl legend rocking fake dreadlocks and putting on a fake Jamaican accent. Here’s the trailer:
It’s obviously a completely unserious film, but there’s been enough backlash that Peter Andre has now deleted all reference and promotional bits for ‘Jafaican’ off his socials. The film’s director, British-Nigerian filmmaker Fredi ‘Kruga’ Nwaka, was invited onto BBC Radio 1Xtra to address the backlash:
I sat down with the Director, Writer, and Executive Producer of “Jafaican”, Fredi Nwaka, to discuss the reaction to the film and its recent trailer. pic.twitter.com/omMF7QraJE

Well I’m not sure how true it is that he went to Jamaica and saw loads of white people wearing the sort of dreadlocks that Peter Andre is in Jafaican, but fair play to him for trying to explain his position anyway. It’s not like he’s going to change anyone’s mind at this point, because people who want to be offended over something always will be. Like he says, at the end of the day, it’s a comedy! Yeah OK it probably won’t be a very good comedy, but let’s wait till it’s out before we pass judgement on the whole thing.
Gotta love the comments under the YouTube trailer, at least…
